About the Role: Maintenance Assistant
As a Maintenance Assistant at Costco’s Optical Lab, your main focus is ensuring every area of the facility meets company cleanliness and safety standards. You’ll work through a daily schedule of routine tasks covering the production floor, offices, break room, restrooms, and exterior grounds. Whether you’re operating the trash and cardboard compactors, responding to spills, washing windows, or vacuuming rafters, no two shifts look exactly alike.
Beyond the core cleaning duties, this role also involves grounds maintenance (such as leaf blowing, litter pickup, and snow and ice removal), assisting with painting, performing concrete floor repairs, managing cleaning supply inventory, and supporting internal and external purchasing. Following Optical Lab safety and security procedures is a key part of every task you carry out.

Responsibilities
The Maintenance Assistant role at Costco’s Optical Lab involves a diverse set of daily tasks that keep the facility clean, safe, and fully operational. From routine floor care to grounds upkeep, each responsibility contributes directly to the wellbeing of employees and the protection of equipment.
- Check the daily schedule and carry out routine cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the facility
- Clean floors in offices, the break room, restrooms, the production floor, and other areas, changing scrubber water frequently to minimize dust
- Empty trash from designated areas throughout the Lab and operate trash and cardboard compactors
- Respond promptly to spills and other immediate cleaning needs across the facility
- Clean light fixtures regularly, change light bulbs, and wash windows, upper walls, and ceilings; vacuum rafters periodically
- Assist with grounds maintenance including leaf blowing, litter pickup, roof checks, snow and ice removal, painting, and concrete floor repairs
- Monitor and restock cleaning supplies as needed; receive and place merchandise in the appropriate department
- Operate the Interal maintenance system, conduct store inventory, and support internal and external purchasing
- Follow all Optical Lab safety and security procedures and provide courteous service to members, employees, and suppliers
Requirements / Skills
Costco is looking for a reliable, safety-conscious individual with a hands-on approach and the mechanical aptitude to handle a variety of facility maintenance tasks. A candidate who is comfortable working independently, following structured procedures, and adapting to different tasks throughout the shift will do well in this role.
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred
- Valid driver’s licence is required
- Janitorial experience is preferred
- Mechanical aptitude is required for operating equipment and performing minor repairs

- Ability to follow safety and security procedures consistently across all tasks
