About the Role: Letter Carrier – Delivery Agent and Postal Clerk

As an on-call delivery agent, your day begins at the depot where you’ll sort and prepare the day’s deliveries before loading up a Canada Post postal vehicle and heading out on your route. You’ll be the face of the organisation in the community, ensuring customers and businesses receive their mail and parcels on time. As an on-call postal clerk, you’ll work inside a sorting facility handling everything from scanning and sequencing mail items to transfers and dispatching of parcels — with shifts that may include evenings, nights, and weekends.

Both streams require a solid work ethic and the ability to stay active throughout the day. You’ll be expected to follow safe work practices, complete required documentation, and contribute to a smooth-running operation whether you’re solo on a route or part of a larger facility team. Responsibilities

This role covers two operational streams — delivery agent and postal clerk — each with its own set of daily tasks. Whether you’re on the road or inside the facility, your work directly supports Canada Post’s mission of delivering billions of items to Canadians each year.

  • Sort and prepare the day’s mail and parcels at the depot before heading out on deliveries
  • Load and drive a Canada Post postal vehicle along assigned routes
  • Deliver mail and packages by foot or vehicle to residential and business customers throughout the day
  • Unload incoming mail and packages upon returning to the depot for later delivery
  • Sort, scan, sequence, and batch mail items within a sorting facility
  • Receive and accept incoming mail items and process transfers and dispatching of parcels and packets
  • Operate material handling equipment as required in the facility
  • Complete reports and documentation as required by postal clerk duties

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is physically capable, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor and/or shift-based environment. Canada Post values individuals who take safety seriously and can represent the organisation professionally in the community.

  • Valid Class 5 or Class G driver’s licence with a safe driving record for at least 3 years (driver’s abstract required)
  • Physical ability to lift mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lb) and carry items up to 15.9 kg (35 lb) regularly throughout the day
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, as outdoor delivery is a core part of the role
  • On-call availability, possibly including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English and/or French
  • Customer service experience is considered an asset
  • Delivery or driving experience is an advantage
  • Production or warehouse environment experience is also considered helpful
