About the Role: Pharmacy Student

As a Pharmacy Student at Costco, you’ll work directly alongside pharmacists to support the full drug distribution process. This includes assisting with prescription entry into pharmacy software, counting and labelling medications, and helping to stock drugs and over-the-counter merchandise. You’ll also interact directly with members at the counter, processing transactions and answering questions about OTC products within the scope of your knowledge and under pharmacist supervision.

Beyond day-to-day dispensing, you’ll play a role in expanded scope initiatives — including identifying patients eligible for medication review programs and helping coordinate Health Promotion Clinics. You’ll be expected to maintain patient confidentiality, comply with provincial pharmacy regulations, and follow all of Costco Pharmacy’s internal policies and safety procedures at all times.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be directly involved in the daily operations of a busy retail pharmacy, supporting pharmacists across a wide range of clinical and administrative tasks. Each responsibility is designed to build your practical skills while ensuring members receive safe, accurate, and courteous care.

  • Triage and respond to member phone calls, directing members to the appropriate products or team members
  • Collect patient information and input prescriptions accurately into the pharmacy software system under pharmacist supervision
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medications, and labelling — always following safety and security procedures
  • Alert the pharmacist when drug interactions or patient concerns arise that require professional assessment
  • Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions with prompt, courteous service
  • Communicate with patients regarding OTC products and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate
  • Provide prescription counselling under pharmacist direction, based on competency level and provincial regulations
  • Identify and recruit patients eligible for the medication review program and assist with conducting those services
  • Support Health Promotion Clinics by helping to recruit patients and assist with implementation alongside the pharmacist
  • Stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise and help keep the pharmacy clean and well organized
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with provincial regulations governing pharmacy student practice at all times

Requirements / Skills
