Day to day, you’ll be designing security controls, conducting security reviews for AI/ML products, leading penetration testing engagements, and building security automation — all within a full secure development life-cycle (SDLC). About the Role: Security Engineer, AI Security
As a Security Engineer on the AI Security team, you’ll be responsible for analyzing the security of AI/ML applications and services, identifying and addressing vulnerabilities, and taking decisive action to mitigate emerging threats. You’ll design and develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices, contribute to code reviews, and help build resilient distributed systems. The role also involves developing custom solutions to complex security risk problems and applying the right technologies in line with security engineering best practices.
Collaboration and communication are central to this position. You’ll be expected to influence decision-makers and stakeholders across multiple teams, foster constructive dialogue around security risks, and participate actively in the planning and continuous improvement of the AI Security team. Benefits and Salary
The base salary range for this position is $107,600 to $179,700 CAD annually. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being. Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll take end-to-end ownership of security projects spanning reviews, tool development, and the creation of new security practices. From hands-on penetration testing to architecting secure AI/ML systems, your contributions will directly shape how Amazon builds and protects its AI services at scale.
- Conduct security reviews for AI/ML products, technologies, and services throughout the SDLC
- Design and implement secure architecture for AI/ML systems following security engineering best practices
- Lead penetration testing engagements and develop new testing methods and exploits
- Build security tools and automation to address complex security risk problems
- Perform threat modeling and security testing as part of secure development life-cycle practices
- Influence stakeholders and decision-makers across multiple teams to maintain a consistently high security bar
- Create security guidance, documentation, and training for internal development teams
- Develop and improve metrics that drive desired behaviour and security outcomes
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation
- Support mentoring, team building, and recruiting activities

Requirements / Skills
Amazon is looking for a Security Engineer who combines strong technical depth with clear communication skills and the ability to take ownership of complex, ambiguous challenges. The ideal candidate can be trusted as a security advisor in at least one knowledge domain while applying best practices broadly across technical areas.
- 2+ years of scripting, programming, and security code review experience in common programming languages (non-internship)
- 2+ years of experience identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans
- Bachelor’s degree or above in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or equivalent — or experience defining and creating benchmarks for assessing GenAI model performance
- Threat modeling or risk identification techniques experience is preferred
- Experience with security in service-oriented architectures, microservices, and web services is preferred
- Strong communication skills with the ability to foster constructive dialogue when navigating differing opinions on security risks
