About the Role: Postal Clerk – Retail and Operations

As a Postal Clerk in Gaspé, you’ll handle a mix of sales and customer service duties, mail handling, and operational tasks. You’ll be expected to operate a computer point-of-sale system, maintain floor displays, conduct merchandising and inventory control, and keep up with knowledge of postal products and services. No two shifts will look exactly the same.

This role also has a physical component. You’ll be required to stand for up to 3.5 hours at a time, handle mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs), and carry items weighing up to 15.9 kg (35 lbs). Bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying are all part of the regular workday. You may also work days, evenings, overnights, and weekends as this is an on-call position.

Responsibilities

The Postal Clerk role at Canada Post covers a broad range of duties across both retail customer service and mail operations. Depending on the office and shift, you’ll move between public-facing work and back-end processing — making adaptability a key asset in this position.

  • Deliver customer service through a variety of sales and service activities to ensure complete customer satisfaction
  • Operate a computer point-of-sale system and process financial transactions including cash, cheques, debit, and credit card payments
  • Maintain floor displays and conduct merchandising and inventory control
  • Stay informed on postal products, services, and delivery knowledge to assist customers accurately
  • Receive, sort, sequence, and batch mail items as part of daily operations
  • Operate mail processing equipment, including clearing jams and removing mail from sorting machines where applicable
  • Transport mail between floors and sections using rolling or motorized equipment where applicable
  • Review mail items for address accuracy and proper postage
  • Key in data using a computer when applicable

Requirements / Skills
