About the Role: Loss Prevention Clerk
As a Loss Prevention Clerk, your primary responsibility is safeguarding the warehouse against both internal and external theft. You’ll actively patrol the warehouse up to eight hours a day, observe activity, and take appropriate action when theft or dishonesty is suspected. You’ll also prepare reports, maintain evidence files, and coordinate with local law enforcement — including testifying in court when required.
Beyond direct theft prevention, this role involves coaching and educating warehouse team members on loss prevention policies, communicating with neighbouring Costco locations and local businesses about theft trends, and identifying shrink reduction opportunities within operations. Strong judgment, discretion, and a thorough knowledge of relevant Canadian legislation are essential in this position.

Responsibilities
Working as a Loss Prevention Clerk at Costco Markham means taking on a wide range of security and safety duties across the warehouse. Your work directly contributes to a safer, more secure environment for both members and staff.
- Patrol the warehouse and its perimeter for up to 8 hours daily, monitoring for safety and security concerns

- Identify and report internal dishonesty to the Warehouse Manager and Regional Loss Prevention Manager
- Detect shrink reduction opportunities and report findings to management to improve operational efficiency
- Prepare reports for internal use and for potential prosecution; maintain evidence and investigation files
- Testify in court regarding theft investigations when required
- Stay current on Costco procedures and applicable laws; attend loss prevention meetings and seminars
- Coach and educate warehouse team members on loss prevention topics, policies, and procedures
- Communicate with neighbouring Costco LP Clerks and local businesses to share information on current theft threats
- Assist in other areas of the warehouse as needed
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate for this Loss Prevention Clerk role brings direct experience in retail loss prevention or security, a solid grasp of Canadian criminal and privacy legislation, and strong communication skills. Costco values candidates who can act professionally under pressure and work collaboratively with management and law enforcement.
- Loss Prevention experience is preferred — candidates with this background will be given preference
- Valid Loss Prevention Licence as required by the Province of Ontario
- Strong knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada as it relates to theft and fraud offences, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Trespass Act, and Privacy Acts
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Excellent communication, observation, and problem-solving skills
- Physical ability to walk and stand for extended periods — up to 8 hours per shift
