Pharmacy Student – Costco – Markham, ON

Costco’s pharmacy in Markham, Ontario is looking for a Pharmacy Student to join the team at their 65 Kirkham Drive location. This is a hands-on role that puts your pharmacy education to work in a real community setting, where you’ll work directly alongside licensed pharmacists and gain practical experience in drug distribution, patient care, and expanded scope pharmacy services.

Day to day, you’ll be involved in everything from prescription entry and dispensing to supporting Health Promotion Clinics and medication review programs. It’s a varied, fast-moving position that offers meaningful clinical exposure while you complete your studies.

About the Role: Pharmacy Student

Working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, you’ll assist with the full spectrum of pharmacy operations at Costco. This includes prescription order entry, counting and labelling medications, and processing transactions at the counter. You’ll also play a supporting role in patient-facing services, communicating with members about OTC products and knowing when to escalate questions to the pharmacist.

Compliance is central to this position. You’ll be expected to follow provincial regulations governing the role of a pharmacy student, maintain strict patient confidentiality, and adhere to Costco Pharmacy’s internal policies and procedures at all times. Teamwork, attention to detail, and safe dispensing practices are core expectations of the role.

Responsibilities

As a Pharmacy Student at Costco, your responsibilities span clinical support, patient service, and operational tasks — all carried out under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist. The variety of duties gives you broad exposure to community pharmacy practice and prepares you well for your career ahead.

• Answer and triage member phone calls and direct members to the appropriate products or services
• Collect patient information and input prescriptions into the pharmacy software system accurately and efficiently
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock, counting medications, and labelling under pharmacist supervision, following all safety and security procedures
• Alert the pharmacist when clinical concerns arise, such as potential drug interactions or patient issues
• Assist patients at the counter, retrieve prescriptions, and process register transactions
• Communicate with patients about OTC products and refer to the pharmacist when appropriate
• Provide prescription counselling education in accordance with your competency level and applicable provincial regulations
• Identify and recruit eligible patients for the medication review program and assist with its delivery
• Support Health Promotion Clinics by helping plan, recruit for, and run these initiatives in collaboration with the pharmacist
• Stock drugs, supplies, and OTC merchandise and help keep the pharmacy clean and organized

• Current enrolment in an accredited pharmacy program is required
• Registration with the relevant provincial College as a pharmacy student is mandatory
• Community pharmacy experience is preferred, particularly familiarity with Kroll pharmacy software

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
• Strong teamwork skills and a willingness to assist wherever needed
