Responsibilities

As a Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco Markham, your day-to-day will involve a mix of direct patient interaction, prescription processing, and inventory management. These responsibilities are essential to maintaining a high standard of pharmacy service for every member who walks through the door.

• Assist patients at the counter, receive written prescriptions, and retrieve filled prescriptions for pick-up
• Process register transactions, receive payment, make change, and handle credit, debit, and cheque transactions
• Maintain confidential patient records and assist the Pharmacist in updating patient profiles and entering prescription data into the pharmacy computer system
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medication, labeling, and pricing under Pharmacist supervision as permitted by provincial regulations
• Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously checked for therapeutic appropriateness by the Pharmacist
• Count, label, and package prescriptions through workflow and bin management, including appropriate auxiliary labels
• Alert the Pharmacist to potential drug interactions in prescription and over-the-counter medications
• Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed and take verbal prescriptions to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
• Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and make accounting entries using the computerized system
• Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and OTC products; follow storage procedures and merchandising standards

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate who brings both the required credentials and a genuine commitment to member service. The ideal applicant will be fully licensed, comfortable with pharmacy software, and ready to work accurately in a fast-moving environment. Candidates with prior Costco Pharmacy experience will be given preference.

• Provincial Pharmacy Technician certification or completion of a Pharmacy Technician course at a Community College, plus the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada Qualifying Exam
• Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing in the province of Ontario
• Computer skills for managing patient records, prescription data, and invoicing using a pharmacy system
• Math skills for accurate counting, pricing, and financial transactions
• Member service skills to provide prompt, courteous, and professional service at the counter and on the phone
• Costco Pharmacy experience is an asset and will be given preference in the selection process
