About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Day to day, you’ll be sorting, collecting, and delivering mail across your assigned route, making sure every item reaches its destination safely and on time. You’ll also get familiar with local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles — building the kind of route knowledge that makes the job run smoothly.

This role comes with real responsibility for mail security and proper handling of Canada Post products and services. You’ll represent Canada Post in the community, so wearing your identification visibly while on delivery is a must. Working independently and following safe driving practices in varying weather and traffic conditions is central to the job.

Responsibilities

This is a hands-on, route-based position where no two days look exactly the same. You’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of mail and parcels across rural and suburban areas, while representing Canada Post professionally in the communities you serve.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure mail safely in your possession at all times during delivery
• Process various Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly while delivering and collecting mail from customers
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is a reliable, safety-first individual who takes pride in doing things right. Preference will be given to Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) or Persons with disabilities as part of a special measure employment equity initiative.

• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or Class G
• Access to a qualifying vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, a metal roof-top, and accessory power outlet
• Vehicle interior specifications — middle of passenger window sill between 38″ and 45″ from the ground and maximum interior width of 56″
• Fifth door or hatchback to accommodate oversized and bulky items (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance for the use of your vehicle, including notification to your insurer of its use while employed at Canada Post
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varying weather and traffic conditions
• Must reside within 75 km of the Princeton Post Office (preferred)
