Canada Post is looking for two Postal Clerks – Retail and Operations to join their team in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. About the Role: Postal Clerk – Retail and Operations
As a Postal Clerk, your day might look quite different from one shift to the next. Some days you’ll be behind the counter helping customers, processing transactions, and answering questions about postal products and services. Other days, you’ll be working in operations — sorting and batching mail, operating processing equipment, and moving mail between sections. That variety is part of what makes this position a solid learning opportunity.
Physical stamina is part of the job. You’ll be on your feet for extended periods, handling mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs) and carrying items up to 15.9 kg (35 lbs). Safe handling practices and attention to physical effort requirements are key parts of the role. Responsibilities
This role spans both retail counter service and back-end mail operations, so your responsibilities will vary depending on where you’re assigned on a given shift. Whether you’re facing customers or sorting mail, attention to detail and a reliable work ethic are what keep things running smoothly.
- Deliver customer service at the retail counter to ensure a positive experience for every customer
- Operate a point-of-sale system to process sales and financial transactions, including cash, cheques, debit, and credit payments
- Maintain floor displays and support merchandising and inventory control
- Stay knowledgeable about Canada Post’s products, services, and delivery information
- Receive, sort, sequence, and batch mail items efficiently and accurately
- Operate mail processing equipment, including clearing jams and removing mail from sorting machines where applicable
- Transport mail between floors and sections using rolling or motorized equipment where applicable
- Key in data using a computer when required, and review mail for address accuracy and proper postage
- Handle mail items safely, including lifting up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs) and carrying up to 15.9 kg (35 lbs)
Requirements / Skills
Canada Post is looking for candidates who are reliable, physically capable, and comfortable working across both customer-facing and operational environments. You don’t need a lengthy résumé — relevant experience in retail or production is what matters most, and some of the preferred experience is considered an asset rather than a strict requirement.
- Customer service experience in a retail environment is required
- Sales experience is considered a strong asset
- Production or operations environment experience is an asset
- Physical fitness to stand for up to 3.5 hours at a time and handle heavy mail items
- Flexible availability across days, evenings, overnights, and weekends
- English language proficiency is required (English Essential)
