About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Day-to-day, this role centres on safe and timely mail delivery across assigned routes in and around Lambeth, ON. You’ll get to know the local roads, customers, and delivery points well — and you’ll be responsible for handling a variety of Canada Post products and services while on the job.

This position is designated as safety sensitive, meaning you’ll be expected to follow Canada Post’s safety standards and substance use policy at all times. You’ll also be wearing Canada Post identification while on delivery and representing the organization in your community every day you’re out on the road.

Responsibilities

Working as a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, your day revolves around keeping mail moving safely and on time. You’ll be handling everything from sorting items at the depot to delivering parcels and letters across your assigned route, while maintaining professionalism and accuracy at every step.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across rural and suburban routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles in your assigned area
• Ensure mail is securely in your possession at all times while on the route
• Process various Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification while on delivery and ensure it remains visible when delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as needed
• Operate a motor vehicle for deliveries across all types of weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is someone with a clean driving record, a reliable vehicle meeting Canada Post’s cargo requirements, and the ability to work independently in all conditions. Attention to detail, punctuality, and a commitment to safety are key traits that will help you succeed in this role.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Personal vehicle meeting mandatory requirements: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 L) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, passenger window sill height between 38″ and 45″ from the ground, and a maximum interior width of 56″
• Fifth door or hatchback on your vehicle is preferred to accommodate oversized and bulky items
• Automobile liability insurance for vehicle use while employed at Canada Post, with notification to your insurance provider
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Applicants residing within 75 km of the Lambeth Post Office are preferred
