Data Center Facility Manager – Amazon – Airdrie, AB

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Data Center Facility Manager to lead engineering operations at its data center facilities in Airdrie, Alberta. About the Role: Data Center Facility Manager

At AWS, Facility Managers are expected to be both strong technical leaders and people-focused managers. You’ll be accountable for the high availability and performance of critical infrastructure — including power systems, cooling systems, UPS units, switchgear, generators, and building monitoring systems — while ensuring that all work is carried out to the highest quality standards without impacting internal or external customers.

Beyond technical operations, this role carries significant leadership responsibilities. You’ll be expected to hire, coach, and develop team members, manage the operations budget, lead improvement projects from conception to completion, and act as the escalation point for all facilities-related issues. A commitment to safety, security, and compliance is non-negotiable in this environment. Please note that the successful candidate must obtain and maintain an active Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada.

Benefits and Salary

The base salary range for this position in Airdrie, AB is $120,300 to $157,500 CAD annually. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Responsibilities

The day-to-day work of a Data Center Facility Manager at AWS spans technical oversight, team leadership, vendor management, and budget control. This role demands someone who can shift seamlessly between strategic planning and hands-on problem solving, always keeping uptime, safety, and operational quality as the top priorities.

• Oversee all aspects of the data centre’s critical physical infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance at all times
• Manage on-site teams of 24×7 shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors to ensure work is performed per established procedures and safety protocols
• Drive safety and security culture and compliance across the team
• Hire, coach, and promote team members; manage career development and performance across the group
• Manage the operations budget and expenditures efficiently and responsibly
• Lead improvement projects from conception through to completion, coordinating with cross-functional support teams as needed
• Act as the escalation point for all facilities-related issues, overseeing routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS systems, chillers, cooling towers, CRAC units, and building monitoring systems
• Apply root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex operational issues
• Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls as required by the role
• Support new facility build-outs and projects aimed at improving current facility efficiency

Requirements / Skills

AWS is looking for a technically grounded leader with a track record of managing teams in high-stakes, mission-critical environments. • 2+ years of people management and team development experience
• 5+ years of engineering work experience managing large-scale services
• Experience maintaining service level agreements (SLAs) through proactive issue detection and reporting
• Experience operating a mission-critical team or product
• High school diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
• Preferred: 3+ years in a management role with 5 or more direct reports
• Preferred: 5+ years in data centres with a focus on building and equipment operations
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Preferred: Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including feeders, transformers, switchgear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status security clearance with the Government of Canada
