About the Role: Area Manager II

As an Area Manager II at an Amazon fulfillment centre, you’ll be responsible for keeping your department running at peak performance. You’ll conduct planning sessions, diagnose root causes of performance gaps using advanced analytics, and implement scalable process improvements that can ripple across multiple workflows impacting 200+ associates. Every day, your decisions directly affect millions of customer orders across Canada.

Collaboration is a cornerstone of this role. You’ll partner cross-functionally with Safety, Engineering, Loss Prevention, Quality Assurance, and Human Resources teams to develop and execute plans that meet business objectives. Physical readiness matters too — this is an active, on-floor role that includes standing and walking for up to 12 hours per shift, working in variable temperatures, and operating in environments with fluctuating noise levels.

Benefits and Salary

Amazon offers a competitive base salary of $75,000 to $105,000 CAD annually for this position in Nisku, AB. As a total compensation company, Amazon’s package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Responsibilities

The Area Manager II role at Amazon is as much about people as it is about operations. Day to day, you’ll balance coaching frontline associates, diagnosing performance gaps, and executing plans that keep customer promises on track. These responsibilities span leadership, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Lead and develop a team of up to 80 hourly associates, providing mentorship, coaching, and motivation throughout each shift
• Manage departmental performance across safety, quality, productivity, and on-time customer delivery metrics
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Safety, Engineering, Loss Prevention, Quality Assurance, and HR teams to build and execute plans aligned with business objectives
• Diagnose performance gaps using advanced analytics and data-driven decision-making to implement scalable process improvements
• Facilitate alignment meetings with senior leadership on department-level goals and initiatives
• Drive process improvements that can positively impact 200+ associates across multiple workflows
• Conduct planning sessions with your team to work through operational challenges and build leadership capability within your group
• Maintain physical presence on the floor, including standing and walking for up to 12 hours, lifting up to 49 lbs, and working in variable temperature environments

Requirements / Skills

Amazon is looking for a proven people leader with a strong foundation in operations management and a knack for making data-driven decisions. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience leading large teams, a comfort with performance metrics, and the flexibility to work varied schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.

• 2+ years of employee and performance management experience, demonstrating the ability to engage and develop hourly workforces
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or 2+ years of Amazon blue badge/FTE experience in lieu of a degree
• Flexible schedule availability, including willingness to work weekends, nights, and holidays as required
• Experience managing large teams (50+ members) is preferred and considered a strong asset
• Process improvement knowledge — familiarity with Lean Six Sigma and/or Kaizen methodologies is an advantage
• Industry background in shipping/logistics, distribution centres, manufacturing, hospitality, healthcare, retail, or customer-facing environments is preferred
• Analytical mindset with experience using performance metrics to identify root causes and drive improvements
