WHS Specialist – Amazon – New Westminster, BC

Amazon Canada is looking for a Workplace Health & Safety Specialist (WHSS) to join their fulfillment operations in New Westminster, British Columbia. This is a role for someone who is passionate about workplace safety culture and wants to make a tangible difference in how one of the world’s most recognized companies protects its people on the floor every single day.

As the building’s dedicated safety champion, you’ll be combining data-driven strategies with hands-on leadership to reduce risk, investigate incidents, and develop a workforce that treats safety as second nature. From conducting daily safety audits to building trust with frontline associates and site leadership, this role puts you at the centre of meaningful change.

About the Role: WHS Specialist

The WHS Specialist is responsible for driving comprehensive safety programs across the facility through a combination of audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and targeted training. You’ll implement innovative approaches to hazard prevention while keeping productivity and safety working in harmony. Your impact will be felt daily — by the associates you protect and the culture you help shape.

Beyond the technical side of safety, this role demands strong people skills. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor and advocate, building relationships at every level of the organization. Whether coaching frontline workers on safe habits or presenting safety data to leadership, your ability to communicate and influence will be just as important as your EHS knowledge. Flexibility is essential — shifts include days, nights, and/or weekends.

Benefits and Salary

The base salary range for this position is $29.37 to $40.38 CAD per hour, with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The benefits package includes health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D insurance), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities

This role covers two core impact areas: Safety Program Excellence and Associate Advocacy & Cultural Leadership. Day to day, you’ll be on the floor conducting audits, following up on incidents, and working directly with associates and managers to embed safe behaviours into everyday routines. Every task you carry out contributes to Amazon’s overarching goal of becoming the Earth’s Safest Place to Work.

• Lead daily safety audits, incident investigations, and comprehensive risk assessments across the facility
• Implement data-driven strategies and innovative solutions to proactively prevent injuries
• Deliver engaging safety training programs that resonate with associates and build a proactive safety culture
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workplace safety without compromising operational efficiency
• Build strong partnerships with frontline associates and leadership to drive lasting behavioural change
• Transform safety data into compelling narratives that influence decision-making and drive engagement in safety programs
• Perform physical duties including lifting up to 49 lbs, standing/walking for up to 12 hours, and navigating variable temperature environments

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in Environmental Health & Safety, a working knowledge of applicable regulations, and the communication skills needed to coach and influence people at all levels. Amazon values candidates who are equally comfortable reviewing data and walking the floor with associates.

• High school diploma or equivalent is required
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910
• Minimum 1 year of EHS experience, OR a Bachelor’s degree in an EHS-related field, OR 6 months performing a safety-related role within Amazon
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional setting
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in matters involving security and/or personnel issues
• Experience in emergency response and current First Aid and CPR certification (preferred)
• Experience with worker’s compensation case management and leading safety-focused teams (preferred)
