Supervisor, Electrical Assembly (Afternoon Shift) – Tesla – Markham, ON

Tesla’s Toronto Automation team is hiring a Supervisor, Electrical Assembly to lead a skilled team of technicians building automation equipment for Tesla factories. Based in Markham, Ontario, this is an afternoon shift role for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, technically demanding manufacturing environment and knows how to get the best out of a team.

Day to day, you’ll be the person keeping things moving on the electrical assembly floor — syncing with the day shift supervisor, managing priorities, troubleshooting equipment issues, and coaching your team toward higher performance. This role blends hands-on technical work with genuine people leadership, making it a solid fit for an experienced electrician or engineer ready to step into or grow within a supervisory capacity.

About the Role: Supervisor, Electrical Assembly

As the Supervisor for the afternoon shift, you’ll be responsible for all Electrical Assembly metrics during your shift. That means overseeing the day-to-day execution of your team’s work — from reading schematics and layouts to supporting new equipment installation and startup. You’ll lead by example, maintaining strict 5S standards and cleanliness across the automation cells while driving continuous improvement in team knowledge and capability.

Beyond the technical work, this role carries full supervisory accountability. You’ll be involved in hiring and training, performance management, and resolving day-to-day issues on the floor. All of this happens within the framework of Ontario OHSA requirements, applicable electrical and safety codes, and Tesla’s own high standards for quality and schedule.

Benefits and Salary

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $84,040 to $126,060 annually, plus cash and stock awards. Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be accountable for the output and conduct of your entire shift team. From coordinating handovers with the day supervisor to troubleshooting downed equipment on the spot, the scope is both technical and operational. Here’s what a typical shift might involve:

• Coordinate daily handover with the day shift supervisor to maintain schedule continuity and align on priorities
• Fulfil all supervisory responsibilities in line with organizational policies and applicable laws, with a strong focus on safety compliance at all times
• Support hiring and training of new employees, including planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, and addressing workplace concerns
• Drive shift improvement activities to grow team knowledge and capability while upholding strict 5S standards and floor cleanliness
• Provide hands-on support for new equipment installation, startup, and handover processes
• Work from schematics, diagrams, and layouts, as well as written and verbal instructions to execute electrical assembly tasks
• Troubleshoot down equipment to root cause and propose long-term countermeasures to prevent recurrence

Requirements / Skills

Tesla is looking for a technically grounded leader who can hold their own on the floor while also managing the human side of a busy manufacturing shift. The ideal candidate brings a mix of electrical engineering knowledge, real-world automation build experience, and the communication skills needed to run a high-performing team.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
• 442A Industrial Electrician licence – Red Seal is preferred; other applicable training and certifications are considered an asset
• 3+ years of supervisory experience preferred, with 5+ years in general manufacturing, automation builds, and electrical or controls systems
• In-depth knowledge of OESC, CSA standards (C22.1, Z432), Ontario OHSA, NFPA79, National Electric Code, UL508A, and safety standards including ANSI/RIA15.06 and OSHA
• Strong understanding of automation equipment build practices, codes, regulations, and safety protocols
• Firsthand experience with robotics and PLC systems, including troubleshooting, integration, and commissioning in automated manufacturing environments
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to prioritise under pressure
