About the Role: Software Engineer, S3 Discovery

As part of the S3 Distribution Plane team, you’ll own the design, delivery, and operational health of services that power one of the world’s largest cloud platforms. This isn’t a role where you write code and hand it off — in AWS, if you build it, you own it. You’ll be expected to maintain high standards through test automation, design reviews, code reviews, and verification processes, and participate in an on-call rotation alongside engineers and managers alike.

Benefits and Salary

This position offers a base salary range of $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually for the Vancouver location. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), with final compensation based on experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities

Working within the S3 Distribution Plane team means taking broad ownership of the systems you build. Your responsibilities span design, delivery, operations, and people — making this a well-rounded engineering role with real impact on cloud infrastructure used by organizations around the world.

• Design and deliver scalable services in the domains of DNS, IP connectivity, TLS certificates, VPC endpoints, and private connectivity
• Maintain operational health of services including build and release systems, ensuring maximum uptime for developers and customers
• Develop tools to streamline operations at scale, reducing operational load and improving the overall operational posture of the team
• Improve CI/CD infrastructure by identifying opportunities to increase automation and make test pipelines more robust and flexible
• Mentor junior engineers, actively growing their technical skills, system knowledge, and ability to deliver results
• Investigate and recommend best practices for code quality, fleet health, security, and service reliability
• Write clear documentation to help other engineers get the most out of services and tools across the organization
• Collaborate across AWS with teams like Amazon Route 53, AWS EC2, and AWS Networking to deliver integrated solutions
• Participate in on-call rotation, design reviews, operations meetings, and leadership discussions

Requirements / Skills

Amazon is looking for engineers who bring solid hands-on experience with software development and system design, and who are comfortable working at scale. The right candidate will be someone who takes genuine ownership, raises the operational bar, and thrives in a collaborative environment that values mentorship and continuous learning.

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling
• Proficiency in at least one programming language used in a professional setting
• Full software development life cycle experience (preferred), including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred)
