About the Role: Software Development Manager, Agentic AI DevOps

At its core, this role is about building intelligent systems that help customers understand and troubleshoot their AWS applications faster and more effectively. You’ll own the technical direction for the System of Context — the layer responsible for giving the AWS DevOps Agent accurate, high-quality situational awareness. From designing memory consolidation architectures to evaluating automated reasoning approaches, your technical decisions will directly influence the accuracy, latency, and cost of a platform used at AWS scale.

Beyond the architecture work, you’ll be a key leader within a tightly integrated, multi-team system. The AWS DevOps Agent is a platform built by multiple specialized teams — System of Context, Investigation Agent, and Evaluation — all operating in a continuous feedback loop. You’ll collaborate across all three, holding a high bar on context quality as the real differentiator in the platform’s performance, while also keeping an eye on long-term operational excellence and sustainability.

Benefits and Salary

This position offers a base salary range of $171,400 to $286,200 CAD annually for the Vancouver location. As part of Amazon’s total compensation approach, the package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Responsibilities

As the SDM for the System of Context team, your responsibilities span both technical leadership and people management. You’ll be guiding engineers through complex architectural decisions while also keeping the team aligned to customer outcomes and Amazon’s operational standards. • Hire, manage, and grow a diverse team of software engineers, fostering skill development and team effectiveness
• Define and maintain short- and long-term technical roadmaps that balance innovation speed with long-term sustainability

• Influence stakeholders within and outside the organization, building trust across multiple teams and senior leadership
• Drive experiments that help the team explore new capabilities and push the boundaries of what the agent platform can do
• Break down abstract goals into measurable, attainable work items that keep the team focused and productive
• Collaborate cross-functionally with partner engineering teams, product management, and applied science to shape platform direction
• Communicate effectively at multiple levels of management with discretion and clarity, including on sensitive technical and organizational topics

Requirements / Skills

This role calls for a seasoned engineering leader who has hands-on experience building and running engineering teams in complex technical environments. • 3+ years of engineering team management experience, including hiring, mentoring, and growing engineers
• 7+ years of direct experience working within engineering teams in a hands-on technical capacity
• 3+ years of systems design or architecture experience, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems
• Experience partnering with product or program management to align engineering work with customer and business goals
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
• Ability to manage ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple concurrent priorities
