About the Role: Software Development Engineer, Early Career
As an SDE-I at Amazon, you’ll be embedded in teams building scalable cloud-native architectures, microservices, and resilient distributed systems. You’ll participate in code reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and work in an agile, CI/CD environment where development cycles move fast. The work is meaningful — your contributions directly affect millions of customers, sellers, and products globally.

Benefits and Salary
For the Vancouver, BC location, the base salary range is $89,700 to $149,800 CAD annually. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), with final compensation based on experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life and AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources focused on health and well-being.

Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be contributing to real engineering work across Amazon’s global infrastructure. Your day-to-day will involve designing, building, and operating scalable systems while collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams. These responsibilities are central to delivering high-quality products that reach customers at massive scale.
- Design and develop scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices in large distributed computing environments
- Collaborate effectively with experienced Amazonians across disciplines to build and operate innovative products and services
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation to maintain engineering standards
- Build and maintain resilient distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective
- Leverage GenAI and AI-powered tools to enhance development productivity while staying current with emerging technologies
- Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and established design patterns
- Work in an agile environment practising CI/CD principles and participating in on-call operational responsibilities
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues, demonstrating a commitment to operational excellence
Requirements / Skills
Amazon is looking for curious, driven engineers who think big and are eager to learn. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in computer science principles, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to thrive in an environment that values ownership and initiative. Preferred candidates will have some project or internship experience to draw from.
- Programming experience in at least one general-purpose language such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript
- Data structures and algorithms knowledge, including basic algorithm development and object-oriented design principles
- Currently enrolled in or completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field
- Must be 18 years of age or older at time of application
- Technical internship or project experience is an asset (preferred but not required)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred), database systems (SQL/NoSQL), version control, or open-source contribution is a plus
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills combined with excellent written and verbal communication abilities
