About the Role: Software Development Engineer, AWS SNS
This role involves helping shape the technical roadmap for SNS and SQS — defining architecture and design, writing excellent code, and driving operational excellence across a system that serves as a critical building block for AWS customers globally. You’ll work through all phases of the software development lifecycle, from the kernel of an idea through to production.

Benefits and Salary
The base salary range for this position in Vancouver, BC is $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life & AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer on the AWS Messaging team, you’ll be deeply involved in shaping the architecture and execution of SNS and SQS. Your work will directly impact how businesses around the world build and run cloud-native applications, and you’ll take full ownership of projects across every stage — from design to deployment.
- Refine roadmaps and contribute to the technical direction of SNS and SQS services
- Architect and design new systems and improvements to existing distributed infrastructure
- Write high-quality code that meets standards for reliability, scalability, and performance
- Drive operational excellence across a massive-scale distributed system operating at multi-million TPS
- Own projects end-to-end, from initial concept through to production delivery
- Collaborate with teammates in an agile programming environment to deliver continuous improvements
- Support customers by translating their needs into well-engineered, production-ready features
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in professional software development and a strong foundation in distributed systems design. Amazon is looking for engineers who are curious, customer-focused, and comfortable taking full ownership of complex technical challenges at scale.
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship experience in design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Proficiency in at least one programming language used in a professional setting
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience — including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent (preferred)
- Passion for distributed fault-tolerant systems and large-scale infrastructure challenges
