About the Role: Software Development Engineer, Alexa Connections

As a Software Development Engineer on the Alexa Connections team, you’ll play a central role in building next-generation communication features powered by advanced AI technologies. You’ll influence product and technology strategy, define features, refine system architecture, and establish best practices around LLM and Agentic AI integration. Your work will directly impact the reliability, scalability, and performance of cloud services and device software that customers rely on every day.

You’ll operate within a collaborative, Agile/Scrum environment, leading code reviews and driving development standards across the team. Benefits and Salary

This position offers a base salary range of $114,800 to $191,800 CAD annually for the Vancouver, BC location. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include comprehensive health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, and basic life & AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and a range of additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day, you’ll be working across the full stack of AI-powered communication features — from designing scalable APIs to optimizing software libraries for low-latency performance. Your contributions will directly influence both the technical direction and the user experience of Alexa+.

  • Influence strategy by helping define product features, refining system architecture, and establishing Agentic AI and LLM best practices
  • Build agentic APIs to deliver low-latency, low-cost, highly reliable, and highly scalable cloud services and device software
  • Lead software design and development standards, including team processes and code reviews
  • Optimize software libraries for low latency, CPU efficiency, and memory footprint
  • Deliver high-quality software within a dynamic, team-focused Agile/Scrum environment
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to their professional development, improving technical knowledge and engineering practices across the team

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings solid hands-on software development experience with a strong foundation in system design and architecture. Amazon values engineers who can think at scale, write clean code, and bring others along on the journey.

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of experience in design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent (preferred)
