About the Role: Senior Software Development Engineer
As a Senior SDE on the APP team, you’ll be contributing to a Service Oriented Architecture built on native AWS applications, working within an agile development environment. Benefits and Salary
The base salary for this position in Vancouver, BC ranges from $150,700 to $251,700 CAD annually. Amazon’s total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Responsibilities
Senior SDEs at Amazon Payment Products are expected to operate with high ownership across the software development lifecycle. Your day-to-day work will involve designing robust distributed systems, delivering customer-facing features, and contributing to the architectural direction of the team’s technical roadmap.
- Invent and build new features and user experiences for Amazon’s global payment and financial services products
- Design and architect new and existing systems using reliable, scalable design patterns on native AWS infrastructure
- Lead technical direction across projects, including code reviews, engineering standards, and best practices
- Mentor engineers and contribute to growing the technical capability of the broader team
- Own the full software lifecycle — from coding and testing through operations and continuous improvement
- Collaborate within an agile team to deliver high-impact features for high-volume, globally distributed systems
Requirements / Skills
This role is built for a seasoned engineer who brings deep technical expertise alongside strong leadership instincts. Amazon is looking for someone who has not only shipped complex software at scale, but who actively elevates the engineers around them through mentorship and technical guidance.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship) in a production environment
- Proficiency in at least one programming language with 5+ years of hands-on experience
- 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems, including reliability and scaling considerations
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team leader with demonstrated ability to guide technical decisions
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- Full software development lifecycle experience (preferred), including coding standards, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
