About the Role: Security Guard

This contract position reports directly to the Manager, Physical Security & Gatehouse Operations and covers all Toronto Operations Distribution & Gatehouse locations. Day-to-day, you’ll manage the flow of commercial vehicles in and out of shipping and receiving areas, conduct vehicle searches, verify seal compliance on inbound and outbound loads, and support yard reconciliation. Your responsibilities span both physical security patrols and administrative duties like detailed report and record keeping.

Collaboration is central to this role. You’ll communicate regularly with transportation, vehicle control, and dispatch teams, while also escalating emergencies to police, fire, or ambulance services as outlined in standard operating procedures. Maintaining compliance with legislated guidelines and upholding the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality are non-negotiable expectations in this position.

Responsibilities

As the first line of response at the Distribution Centre, the Security Guard is responsible for a wide range of gatehouse, patrol, and compliance duties. These responsibilities are essential to keeping Canadian Tire’s supply chain operations safe, compliant, and running efficiently around the clock.

  • Screen all vehicles and visitors entering and exiting the Distribution Centre yard and conduct vehicle searches as required
  • Monitor closed-circuit television systems to maintain security of facilities and company property
  • Identify and report security breaches, facility hazards, and emergency situations, and contact emergency responders per standard operating procedures
  • Conduct regular patrols and perform building security duties as assigned
  • Verify seal compliance and load integrity on all inbound and outbound commercial vehicle loads
  • Support compliance with legislated guidelines for the transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • Assist with yard check reconciliation and trailer locates
  • Maintain accurate, detailed security reports and records on key security measurements
  • Coordinate the movement of commercial vehicles in and out of shipping and receiving areas, and support transportation, dispatch, and vehicle control teams

Requirements / Skills

This role calls for a security professional who is licensed, physically capable, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced logistics environment.   • Valid Ontario Security Licence — provincially licensed to work as a Security Guard in Ontario
  • Valid Driver’s Licence in good standing with a driver’s abstract available upon request
  • Post-secondary diploma in Security and Law Enforcement, or a minimum of 5 years of security experience in a transportation or distribution environment
  • Physical capability to meet medium physical requirements, including extended periods of standing or walking and overhead lifting
  • Successful criminal and credit background check (bondable), renewed annually
  • Superior attendance record and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer service orientation and excellent report writing ability
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and security-related systems
  • Ability to handle confidential information and manage stressful or threatening incidents with professionalism
