About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

In this position, you’ll be responsible for the full delivery cycle — from sorting mail items at the post office to delivering them efficiently across your assigned route. You’ll need to be comfortable navigating rural roads and suburban streets in all weather conditions while keeping an accurate knowledge of local infrastructure, addresses, and delivery receptacles.

This role also requires you to process various Canada Post products and services, wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times, and handle items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg). Safety and professionalism are central to everything you’ll do on the job.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day work as a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier involves a combination of sorting, driving, and customer-facing delivery tasks. Every shift requires focus on safety, efficiency, and accuracy to ensure mail reaches its destination reliably.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession at all times to prevent loss or damage
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery and collection
• Lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of daily delivery duties
• Operate a motor vehicle in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions safely and responsibly

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in doing a thorough job, can work independently on a route, and is comfortable behind the wheel in varying conditions. Dependability and attention to detail are essential traits Canada Post looks for in this role.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or Class G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Qualifying personal vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, and a fifth door/hatchback (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance for the use of your vehicle while employed, with notification to your insurer
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in various conditions is an asset
• Reside within 75 km of the Wingham Post Office (preferred)
• Ability to pass an interview and provide required documentation upon selection
