About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an On-call Relief Mail Carrier, your day revolves around sorting, collecting, and delivering mail items efficiently and safely. You’ll operate your own vehicle along designated routes, navigating various road and weather conditions across the Thunder Bay area. You’ll need to build and maintain a solid knowledge of local roads, customer locations, and delivery receptacles.

Beyond delivering mail, you’ll also be processing Canada Post products and services such as Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). You’ll be expected to wear your Canada Post identification at all times while on duty, and ensure all mail is kept secure throughout your route. Lifting and carrying items up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg is part of the job, so physical readiness is important.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner along designated routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customer locations, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession throughout the duration of your route
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification at all times during delivery and ensure it remains visible
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions across varying terrain

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Personal vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 100 cu ft (2,832 litres), a metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and fifth door or hatchback (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance — you must provide and maintain coverage and notify your insurer of vehicle use for Canada Post
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in various weather and traffic conditions
• Ability to pass an interview and provide required documentation upon selection
