About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for sorting and delivering mail and parcels safely and on time to customers along your assigned route. You’ll need to build and maintain a solid knowledge of local roads, delivery receptacles, and customer locations. Handling various Canada Post products and services — including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail processing, and Items Delivered Bills — is also part of the job.

This role requires a strong sense of personal responsibility and professionalism. You’ll be wearing Canada Post identification while on delivery and ensuring it’s visible at all times. Keeping mail secure while in your possession is non-negotiable. Safe driving practices and adherence to Canada Post’s operational standards are central to everything you do on the job.

Responsibilities

As a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, your work directly connects communities to the mail they rely on. Each shift involves a combination of physical sorting, vehicle operation, and customer-facing delivery — requiring both attention to detail and efficiency on the road.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner along assigned rural and suburban routes
• Build and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure mail at all times while in your possession to ensure safe and accurate delivery
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery and collection
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as part of regular duties
• Operate a motor vehicle safely across all types of weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for candidates who are reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working independently in a delivery environment. A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record are essential — this role is built around operating a personal vehicle on public roads.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varying weather and traffic conditions
• Personal vehicle meeting mandatory cargo requirements: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 litres) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and a fifth door or hatchback (preferred)
• Valid automobile liability insurance for use of personal vehicle, with notification to your insurance provider of its use during employment
• Applicants residing within 75 km of the Thorndale Post Office are preferred
