About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Day to day, you’ll be responsible for sorting and delivering mail items safely and on time, learning and maintaining knowledge of local roads and delivery points, and ensuring all mail remains secure in your possession throughout your route. You’ll also process various Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail processing, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB), among others.

As you’ll be representing Canada Post in the field, wearing Canada Post identification visibly while on delivery is required. You must also be comfortable lifting and carrying items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) and operating your own vehicle — which must meet specific cargo and safety requirements set by Canada Post. This is a safety-sensitive role, and a clean driving record is essential.

• Sort and deliver mail items safely and on time across assigned rural and suburban routes
• Collect outgoing mail from customers and delivery receptacles along your route
• Secure all mail in your possession throughout the delivery process
• Learn and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery points in the Huntsville area
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while on delivery
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
• Operate a personal vehicle that meets Canada Post’s mandatory cargo and equipment requirements

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for a dependable, organized individual who can work independently and handle the physical and logistical demands of daily mail delivery. The right candidate is comfortable driving in all weather and traffic conditions and takes safety seriously on every route.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Own vehicle meeting Canada Post specifications: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 L) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal rooftop with accessory power outlet, and window sill height between 38″ and 45″ from the ground
• Automobile liability insurance coverage for vehicle use while employed, and willingness to notify your insurer accordingly
• Physical capability to lift and carry parcels up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
