About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier (On-call Relief)

As an on-call relief carrier, your primary responsibility is sorting, collecting, and delivering mail items safely and efficiently across assigned rural and suburban routes. You’ll need to quickly become familiar with local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles, and maintain that knowledge to ensure accurate and timely service.

This position also involves processing various Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). You’ll be expected to wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times while on duty, and handle items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg). A valid provincial driver’s licence (Class 5 or G) and a suitable personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s cargo and equipment specifications are required.

• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for a candidate who is organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently. You should be at ease behind the wheel in all conditions and take pride in delivering quality service to every community on your route. A valid driver’s licence and a suitable personal vehicle are mandatory for this position.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s specifications: minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and appropriate window sill height
• Automobile liability insurance for the use of your vehicle during employment, and willingness to notify your insurer accordingly
• Experience making deliveries and operating a vehicle in various weather and traffic conditions
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established postal procedures and protocols
