About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-Call Relief

As an on-call relief carrier, you’ll be stepping in as needed to ensure mail gets to its destination safely and on time. That means sorting, collecting, and delivering mail items across local routes, learning the layout of communities — including roads, customers, and delivery points — and keeping everything secure while in your care. You’ll also be responsible for processing Canada Post products and services like Change of Address Notifications and Damaged Mail items.

This role demands a strong commitment to safe driving practices and adherence to Canada Post’s procedures while on delivery. You’ll be representing Canada Post in the community, which means wearing your Canada Post identification visibly at all times. Physical readiness is important too — you may need to lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) regularly throughout your shift.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local infrastructure, including roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail safely while in your possession throughout your route
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence (Class 5 or Class G)
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Personal vehicle meeting Canada Post’s mandatory requirements: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 L) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal rooftop with accessory power outlet, and appropriate window sill height
• Automobile liability insurance for vehicle use, with notification to your insurer of Canada Post employment
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Residency within 75 km of the Wallaceburg Post Office is preferred
