Registered Pharmacy Technician – Costco – Toronto, ON

About the Role: Registered Pharmacy Technician

As a Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco Toronto, you’ll be directly supporting the pharmacist in all aspects of prescription processing — from counting and labelling medications to entering prescription data into the pharmacy’s computerized system. You’ll also serve as a key point of contact for members visiting the pharmacy counter and calling in with questions.

This role requires adherence to provincial regulations, strict patient confidentiality standards, and pharmacy safety and security procedures. You’ll collaborate closely with the pharmacist and contribute to a well-organized, compliant pharmacy operation.

Responsibilities

The Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco plays an essential role in keeping the pharmacy running efficiently and safely. From processing prescriptions to managing inventory and serving members, your work directly impacts patient care and satisfaction every single day.

• Assist patients at the pharmacy counter, retrieve filled prescriptions, and provide prompt, courteous service
• Process register transactions including receiving payment, making change, and handling credit and debit charges
• Obtain and maintain patient medical history in a confidential computerized record system, and update patient profiles as required by provincial regulations
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medication, labelling containers, and pricing prescriptions under the pharmacist’s supervision
• Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously reviewed by the pharmacist for therapeutic appropriateness
• Alert the pharmacist to potential drug interactions in prescription and over-the-counter medications
• Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone and take verbal prescriptions to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
• Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and enter accounting entries using the computerized system
• Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and over-the-counter products in line with storage procedures and merchandising standards
• Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy department and create product signs as needed

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for a candidate who holds valid licensure as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in Ontario and brings strong technical and customer service skills to the role. Preference will be given to those who already have Costco Pharmacy experience, so highlighting any prior work within a Costco pharmacy environment is worthwhile.

• Provincial Pharmacy Technician certification — completed through a recognized community college program or equivalent
• Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada (PEBC) Qualifying Exam — must be successfully completed
• Active licence as a Pharmacy Technician in good standing in Ontario
• Computer skills for working with pharmacy management and point-of-sale systems
• Math skills for accurate medication counting and financial transactions
• Member service skills — the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients in person and over the phone
• Prior Costco Pharmacy experience is considered a strong asset and given preference
