About the Role: Optical Student

As an Optical Student at Costco Toronto, you’ll assist members throughout the eyewear selection process — from helping them choose frames and lenses to fitting and adjusting eyeglasses upon pickup. All fitting and adjustment work is performed under the supervision of a licensed Optician and in accordance with provincial law, giving you guided, practical experience in optical care.

Responsibilities

Working in the optical department, you’ll take on a variety of tasks that combine member service with hands-on optical and retail duties. These responsibilities are central to keeping the department operating efficiently and ensuring members leave with the right eyewear solutions.

  • Assist members in choosing eyeglass frames and lens options while delivering prompt and courteous service
  • Process transactions by ringing up orders, accepting payments, making change, and handling cheques, credit, and debit according to proper procedures
  • Fit and adjust eyeglasses using a frame warmer and manual adjustments, under the supervision of a licensed Optician where permitted by provincial law
  • Order equipment, merchandise, and supplies by entering requests into the computer system
  • Stock merchandise and supplies while following department standards for production, record keeping, merchandising, and product storage
  • Maintain department cleanliness through spraying, wiping, mopping, emptying trash, and operating the trash compactor and cardboard bailer
  • Follow all safety and security procedures to maintain a safe environment for members and staff
  • Assist in other warehouse areas as needed
