About the Role: Principal Solutions Architect

As a Principal Solutions Architect at AWS Canada, you’ll serve as both a credible technical authority and a trusted strategic advisor to enterprise customers in the retail, consumer packaged goods (CPG), and travel & hospitality sectors. You’ll architect solutions for cloud migration, modernization, and innovation while influencing long-term technology strategy at the C-suite level. Benefits and Salary

This position offers a base salary range of $169,400 to $254,200 CAD annually for Vancouver, BC. As part of Amazon’s total compensation approach, the package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs), with final compensation determined by experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon provides a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, and basic life & AD&D), a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and additional resources to support health and well-being.

Responsibilities

In this role, your responsibilities span technical architecture, customer strategy, and organizational leadership. You’ll be expected to drive measurable business outcomes for enterprise clients while also building the internal capability of the AWS solutions architecture practice through reusable assets, mentorship, and cross-team collaboration.

  • Architect extensible, reusable, and operationally excellent cloud solutions addressing complex migration, modernization, and innovation challenges
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with senior customer leaders, understanding their industry context and business objectives to influence long-term technology direction
  • Provide technical leadership across internal and cross-functional teams, building consensus on approaches and negotiating architectural trade-offs to drive business impact
  • Develop and deliver technical content including workshops, prototypes, and presentations, and speak at industry events to support technology evaluation and adoption
  • Advocate for customers by identifying product gaps and feature requests, working with AWS service teams to ensure customer needs are understood
  • Create reusable technical assets such as reference architectures, frameworks, and code samples that other Solutions Architects can leverage
  • Mentor teammates on solving complex problems and help develop the next generation of Solutions Architects within the organization

Requirements / Skills

This is a senior, principal-level role that calls for someone with a deep technical foundation combined with the executive presence to influence at the C-suite level. AWS Canada values candidates who can demonstrate both hands-on architecture expertise and the strategic acumen to guide enterprise-scale transformation.

  • 10+ years of experience in specific technology domains such as software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, or data & analytics
  • 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, or consulting on applications and infrastructure
  • Proven experience architecting complex, end-to-end solutions in distributed systems and cloud architectures
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences, including C-level engagement, training, and publications
  • Familiarity with modern architectural patterns such as microservices, serverless, and event-driven systems, with the ability to adapt these for customer-specific needs
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI (preferred)
  • Experience in the retail sector is considered an asset
  • AI/ML solution design experience including generative AI, agentic applications, MLOps, and RAG architectures is a strong asset
