About the Role: Optician / Contact Lens Practitioner (Licensed)

As a Licensed Optician at Costco Saskatoon, your day-to-day work covers a wide range of optical services. Responsibilities

This role covers the full spectrum of optical care and retail service. As the licensed professional on the floor, you’ll be expected to deliver accurate, member-focused service while keeping the department organized, stocked, and compliant with provincial and Costco standards.

  • Assist members in selecting frames, lenses, sunglasses, and contact lenses that match their prescriptions and preferences
  • Measure pupillary distance using a pupilometer or ruler, and accurately determine multifocal and bifocal heights
  • Examine eyes using a slit lamp to assess general ocular health and assist with contact lens fitting
  • Process orders by entering member information into the computer and placing special orders with outside vendors by telephone
  • Dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses after verifying them against the prescription; fit and adjust frames using a frame warmer and manual techniques
  • Handle transactions including cash, cheques, and credit/debit payments in accordance with Costco procedures
  • Manage inventory by ordering equipment, merchandise, and supplies and maintaining proper contact lens trial levels
  • Oversee apprentices and students as required for their certification qualification
  • Maintain licensing requirements to ensure your provincial membership remains in good standing
  • Uphold cleanliness and safety standards throughout the optical department at all times
