Job Summary & Tips for Applying
Quick Summary & What to Highlight: The Operations Supervisor (Exports) position at DHL Express in Ottawa is a hands-on supervisory role covering daily export, clearance and transit operations, aircraft departures and team management in a unionized logistics environment. Candidates should put supervisory experience (three or more years) front of mind, since the role requires confident team leadership, and pair that with any background in Dangerous Goods compliance and Canada customs, which are directly tied to the core export duties.
Resume & Application Tips: Your resume should clearly show the scope of teams you have led and the operational environment, whether that was a warehouse, freight terminal or distribution centre. Spell out any experience with aviation regulations or collective agreements, since both appear as specific requirements. If you have worked on lean or process improvement projects, name the initiative and the result in a single line: for example, “Reduced load error rate by 15% through revised scanning procedure.” That format translates directly to what this role asks for in productivity and quality measurement.
Interview Preparation: Come prepared with a concrete example of managing a time-sensitive operation under changing conditions, since quick decision-making and agility are called out explicitly. Have an answer ready on your experience with Dangerous Goods procedures and how you have maintained compliance. It is worth asking what the current shift structure looks like, since the posting mentions preparing the warehouse for the next shift but does not specify your assigned hours, and that will affect scheduling for anyone you may need to arrange.
