About the Role: Manager, Pension Strategy and Compliance

As the Manager, Pension Strategy and Compliance, you’ll provide strategic direction and oversight for all aspects of Canada Post’s pension programs. You’ll serve as the central liaison between DB and DC Pension Managers, ensuring consistency across both programs while acting as the primary point of contact for union inquiries and audit coordination. Your leadership will shape the pension function from the inside out — from evaluating complex member cases to representing the pension team on cross-functional projects and advisory councils.

Responsibilities

In this leadership role, your day-to-day work will span strategic pension oversight, regulatory monitoring, vendor management, and team leadership. These responsibilities are central to ensuring Canada Post’s pension programs are administered accurately, compliantly, and in the best interest of plan members.

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the administration and compliance of both Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) pension programs
  • Serve as primary contact for union inquiries and pension-related correspondence, ensuring responses are strategic, accurate, and timely
  • Collaborate with legal and actuarial advisors to support collective agreement negotiations and coordinate data and documentation for audits and regulatory reviews
  • Represent the pension function in internal committees and cross-functional projects; prepare presentations for the Pension Advisory Council (PAC)
  • Evaluate and action complex pension member cases, including those requiring legal guidance, ensuring compliance with pension policies and governing legislation
  • Manage vendors through the full lifecycle — from developing RFPs and selecting vendors to contract negotiation, invoice approval, and service level monitoring
  • Monitor pension legislation including the Pension Benefit Standards Act (PBSA) and Income Tax Act (ITA); liaise with OSFI, CRA, and the Office of the Auditor General
  • Lead and develop a team of Pension Officers, ensuring accurate data processing and maintaining governance across all pension-related platforms

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings a solid blend of pension expertise, people management experience, and strategic thinking. Canada Post values candidates who can navigate complex regulatory environments while building strong collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Post-secondary education in a related field, or an equivalent combination of professional experience and training
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant functional experience in pension administration or a related area
  • 2 or more years of people management experience
  • Unionized environment experience considered a strong asset
  • CEBS, PPAC, or equivalent pension/benefits certification is an asset
  • Strong analytical, judgement, and decision-making skills with a proven track record in problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills — both oral and written — with the ability to manage relationships across legal, actuarial, union, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Bilingualism is an asset — the successful candidate must commit to learning Canada’s second official language (Bilingual Non-Imperative –BB)
