About the Role: Postal Clerk – Retail and Operations
As a Postal Clerk, you’ll work across both the retail counter and mail operations sides of the post office. On the retail side, that means serving customers, operating a point of sale system, handling financial transactions, and maintaining product displays. On the operations side, you’ll be receiving, sorting, and batching mail, operating processing equipment, and using rolling or motorized equipment to transport mail between areas.
This role also comes with some physical demands — you’ll be required to stand for up to 3.5 hours at a time and handle mail items weighing up to 22.7 kilograms (50 lbs). Comfort with bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying is essential. Attention to detail matters too, particularly when reviewing mail for address accuracy and proper postage.

Responsibilities
Working as a Postal Clerk at Canada Post means contributing to both the retail customer experience and the behind-the-scenes mail operations that keep the country connected. The following responsibilities reflect the variety you can expect day to day in this role.
- Provide customer service at the retail counter to ensure a positive and complete customer experience
- Operate a point of sale system to process sales and handle transactions efficiently
- Process financial transactions including cash, cheques, debit, and credit card payments
- Maintain floor displays and carry out merchandising and inventory control tasks
- Receive, sort, sequence, and batch mail items accurately and efficiently
- Operate mail processing equipment, including clearing jams and removing mail from sorting machines where applicable
- Transport mail between floors and sections using rolling or motorized equipment where applicable
- Review mail items for address accuracy, proper postage, and related requirements
- Key in data using a computer when applicable
- Handle mail items weighing up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs) and carry items up to 15.9 kg (35 lbs)
