About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Your primary responsibility is to sort, collect, and deliver mail to customers across rural and suburban communities in a safe and timely manner. You’ll be operating your own vehicle — which must meet Canada Post’s specifications — through various weather and road conditions, so confidence behind the wheel is essential. You’ll get to know the roads, the customers, and the delivery routes inside and out.

Beyond deliveries, you’ll also be expected to process Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail handling, and Items Delivered Bills. Safety is a top priority — both on the road and in handling mail — and you’ll be expected to wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times while on delivery.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items safely and on schedule to residential and business customers
• Acquire and maintain detailed knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession throughout the delivery process to prevent loss or damage
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly while delivering and collecting mail from customers
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as required
• Operate a personal vehicle that meets Canada Post’s mandatory specifications in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Personal vehicle meeting all Canada Post specifications: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 litres) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and specific window sill height requirements
• Automobile liability insurance covering use of your vehicle for Canada Post deliveries (your insurer must be notified)
• Experience making deliveries or operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg
• Residing within 75 km of the Williamsburg Post Office is preferred
