Responsibilities
Day-to-day, the Cake Decorator role involves a variety of hands-on tasks centred around cake production, decoration, and presentation. From slicing and assembling layers to piping intricate borders and personalizing cakes for member orders, each task contributes to delivering a consistent, high-quality product to Costco members.
- Slice and layer half-sheet cakes by hand or with a slicing machine, placing them on pre-cut cardboard cake pads
- Apply fillings and frosting between layers using a spatula, and garnish cakes by hand
- Fill and use pastry bags with various tips to create borders, figures, and personalized writing following Costco formulas
- Read and interpret member special orders to select appropriate flavours, colours, and decorative patterns; contact members if instructions are unclear
- Prepare cheesecakes by removing them from baking pans, applying toppings, and garnishing per established procedures
- Operate the whipping cream machine and slice fresh fruit for application to baked products
- Box and transfer finished cakes into pre-assembled cardboard boxes and move them to the cooler, freezer, or wrapping area
- Maintain a clean and organized decorating area, following all safety and security procedures
- Provide prompt and courteous member service at all times
