Business Intelligence Engineer – Amazon – Vancouver, BC

Amazon’s IT PnD Data and Analytics team is looking for a skilled Business Intelligence Engineer to join their BI group in Vancouver, BC. This is a role built for someone who thrives in large-scale, data-driven environments and enjoys translating complex datasets into meaningful insights that guide senior leadership decisions.

In this position, you’ll be at the heart of organizational intelligence — building and maintaining Tableau dashboards, developing automated metrics, and conducting deep data analytics. About the Role: Business Intelligence Engineer

As a Business Intelligence Engineer at Amazon, your day-to-day will involve building large-scale reporting solutions using tools like Tableau and QuickSight, running team stand-ups to align priorities, and diving deep into data transformation, report development, and process automation. You’ll collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure the right metrics are being delivered at the right time.

This role calls for more than just technical ability — you’ll need to earn trust with senior leadership, influence decisions without formal authority, and communicate data insights clearly through both verbal and written channels. A strong foundation in project management and the ability to operate in ambiguous, fast-moving environments will be key to your success here.

Benefits and Salary

The base salary range for this position is $76,400 to $127,600 CAD annually for Vancouver, BC. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. As a total compensation company, Amazon’s overall package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Responsibilities

As a BI Engineer on the IT PnD Data and Analytics team, you’ll own a wide range of analytical and engineering tasks that directly shape how Amazon’s leadership teams make decisions. From maintaining the weekly organizational metrics scorecard to performing deep-dive root cause analysis, your contributions will be visible and impactful across the organization.

• Perform complex business analysis to help drive organizational decision-making
• Complete root cause analysis and provide recommendations to senior leadership to address key opportunities
• Develop automated metrics that give senior business leaders insight into team and organizational performance
• Build and maintain Tableau dashboards that deliver clear, actionable data visualizations
• Define key metrics and shared goals that determine success across specific business areas
• Own shared responsibility for the weekly organizational metrics scorecard
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure delivery of the right metrics
• Monitor data quality, conduct code reviews, and document progress with scalability and efficiency in mind

Requirements / Skills

Amazon is looking for a candidate who brings a solid mix of technical expertise and business acumen. You should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, engaging with senior stakeholders, and delivering results in a complex, fast-paced data environment. Strong communication skills are just as important as your ability to write a well-structured SQL query.

• 3+ years of experience analyzing and interpreting data with tools such as Redshift, Oracle, or NoSQL databases
• Data visualization experience using Tableau, QuickSight, or comparable platforms
• Data modeling and ETL pipeline development experience, including data warehousing
• Complex SQL query writing to extract and manipulate data from databases or data warehouses
• Statistical analysis proficiency using packages such as R, SAS, or Matlab
• Python scripting experience for processing and preparing data for modelling
• Excellent analytical and project management skills with a track record of results in ambiguous environments
