About the Role: Tire Installer

This role covers the full scope of tire installation services — from the moment a member’s vehicle arrives to when the keys are returned at the sales desk. You’ll be responsible for balancing, mounting, and rotating tires, repairing flats according to Tire Industry Standards, resetting and relearning TPMS sensors, and performing 40KM torque checks. You’ll also assist members in selecting the right tires using solid product knowledge and persuasive selling skills.

Beyond the technical side, this position involves invoicing, cash handling, and customer communication — including answering phone inquiries and providing price quotes. You’ll also play a role in stocking and organizing the sales floor, maintaining cleanliness in the install area, and supporting the overall flow of the Tire Centre. At propane-equipped locations, certified staff may also assist with propane tank refills following all required safety protocols.

Responsibilities

The day-to-day work of a Tire Installer at Costco is varied and keeps you moving throughout the entire shift. From driving member vehicles into the bay to completing final torque checks and paperwork, every step matters for member safety and satisfaction.

  • Mount and balance tires using industry-standard equipment, including wheel balancers and mounting machines, and fill tires with Nitrogen to proper pressure
  • Install and reset TPMS sensors as required using Costco-supplied reset tools, and relearn sensors according to vehicle specifications
  • Perform torque procedures following TIA R.I.S.T. Standards, and complete the required 40KM torque check on member vehicles
  • Repair flat tires for members in accordance with Tire Industry Standards
  • Assist members in choosing the right tires using the 5 steps of selling, providing prompt and courteous service in person, by phone, and by email
  • Process invoices and payments, including cash, credit, debit, and cheques, as well as calculate refunds for warranty returns
  • Stock, tag, and organize tires on the sales floor following the Tire Centre manager’s merchandising plan
  • Maintain cleanliness in the install and sales areas by sweeping, mopping, spraying, and wiping throughout the day
  • Coordinate with the Tire Centre manager and relevant departments on special orders, pricing, delivery, and promotions
  • Assist with propane refills at applicable locations once provincial certification is obtained, following all safety procedures

Requirements / Skills

Costco is looking for candidates who are dependable, safety-conscious, and comfortable in a physically active environment. The ideal hire brings both technical aptitude and customer service skills to the role, and takes pride in doing the job right every time.

  • Valid driver’s licence is required, as you’ll be driving member vehicles within the Tire Centre area
  • Costco Tire certification must be passed — Costco will guide new hires through this process
  • Previous tire installation or tire sales experience is preferred and will give candidates an advantage in the selection process
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred for this position
  • Propane certification (provincial PP0-3 and TDG Certification from PTI 100-11 program) is required at propane-equipped locations
  • Bilingual in French (oral and written) is required for candidates applying to Quebec locations
  • Physical stamina to work efficiently throughout the day, including lifting, bending, and operating equipment such as impact guns and hydraulic hoists
