Costco’s pharmacy team in Vaughan, Ontario is looking for a Registered Pharmacy Technician to join their operations at the Central Fill location on Hanlan Road. This is a hands-on, patient-facing role where your technical expertise and attention to detail make a real difference every day.
Working under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, you’ll be responsible for everything from filling and dispensing prescriptions to managing inventory, processing insurance claims, and delivering prompt, courteous service to Costco members at the pharmacy counter.
About the Role: Registered Pharmacy Technician
This position covers a broad range of pharmacy technician duties in a high-volume retail pharmacy environment. You’ll assist the Pharmacist throughout the dispensing workflow — from receiving written prescriptions and maintaining confidential patient records, to counting, labelling, and packaging medications in compliance with provincial regulations. Your role is central to keeping the pharmacy running efficiently and safely.
Beyond dispensing, you’ll support the front-end pharmacy counter, handle register transactions, process third-party insurance claims, and manage drug and over-the-counter product orders and stocking. Maintaining a clean, well-merchandised department and following all safety and security procedures is an essential part of the job.

Responsibilities
As a Registered Pharmacy Technician at Costco, your daily work spans the full dispensing workflow, patient-facing service, and back-of-house pharmacy operations. Each responsibility contributes directly to patient safety and the smooth running of the department.
- Assist patients at the pharmacy counter, receive written prescriptions on behalf of the Pharmacist, and retrieve filled prescriptions for pick-up
- Process register transactions, receive payments, make change, and handle cheque, credit, and debit transactions accurately
- Obtain and maintain confidential patient medical histories and assist the Pharmacist in updating patient profiles and entering prescription data into the pharmacy computer system, as permitted by provincial regulations
- Fill prescriptions by retrieving stock bottles, counting medication into appropriate containers, labelling, and pricing under Pharmacist supervision, within the scope permitted by provincial regulations
- Complete packaging verification for prescriptions previously checked for therapeutic appropriateness by the Pharmacist, following all workflow and bin management procedures
- Alert the Pharmacist to potential drug interactions in prescription and over-the-counter medications
- Verify prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone as needed and take verbal prescriptions to the extent permitted by provincial regulations
- Prepare third-party insurance claims, process invoices, and make accounting entries using the computerized pharmacy system
- Order, receive, tag, and stock prescription drugs, supplies, and OTC products; follow product storage procedures and maintain a clean, properly merchandised department
Requirements / Skills
Costco is seeking candidates who are fully licensed and in good standing as a Pharmacy Technician in Ontario. Applicants with current Costco Pharmacy experience will be given preference. Strong interpersonal and technical skills are key to succeeding in this member-facing, fast-paced role.
- Provincial Pharmacy Technician certification — either completed provincial certification or a Pharmacy Technician course at a Community College combined with the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada Qualifying Exam
- Licensed Pharmacy Technician in good standing in the province of Ontario
- Computer skills for use of pharmacy management and computerized dispensing systems
- Math skills for accurate counting, labelling, and processing of transactions and insurance claims
- Member service skills — ability to provide prompt, courteous service in a high-volume environment
- Current Costco Pharmacy experience is preferred and will be given priority consideration
