About the Role: Tire Installer
As a Tire Installer at Costco Gatineau, you’ll be responsible for the complete tire service process — from driving member vehicles into the install bay and performing tire mounting, balancing, and rotation, to resetting TPMS sensors and completing flat tire repairs in accordance with Tire Industry Standards. You’ll work with equipment like impact guns, wheel balancers, and hydraulic hoists, following strict safety protocols including American Lift Institute and TIA R.I.S.T. standards.
Beyond the technical side, this role also involves direct member-facing responsibilities — answering questions, making tire recommendations using the 5 steps of selling, providing price quotes, creating service invoices, and processing payments accurately. Teamwork, communication, and working in an efficient, urgent manner throughout the day are all essential to success in this position. Responsibilities
The Tire Installer role at Costco Gatineau covers both technical vehicle service tasks and member-facing duties. Each day brings a mix of hands-on mechanical work and customer interaction, making it important to be both technically capable and service-oriented.
- Mount and balance tires using mounting machines and wheel balancers, attaching wheel weights to rims as required
- Install and rotate tires following TIA R.I.S.T. standards, using impact guns and hydraulic hoists in accordance with safety guidelines
- Reset and relearn TPMS sensors as required using Costco-supplied reset tools
- Perform flat tire repairs for members in accordance with Tire Industry Standards
- Complete 40KM torque checks and alert the manager or lead to authorize vehicle release
- Stock, tag, and organize tires on the sales floor and in steel storage per the Tire Centre manager’s merchandising plan
- Assist members in determining tire needs, making product recommendations, and answering questions in person, by phone, and by email
- Process transactions accurately — including payments, warranty returns, and tire purchase and service invoices
- Communicate with the Tire Centre manager, buyers, and receiving regarding special orders, pricing, delivery, and promotions
- Clean the install and sales area by sweeping, mopping, and wiping throughout the day
- May assist with propane refills following all required safety procedures (once provincially certified)
Requirements / Skills
Costco is looking for a candidate who is safety-focused, reliable, and capable of working efficiently throughout a full shift. The ideal applicant brings some hands-on experience with vehicles or tires, holds the necessary certifications, and can communicate comfortably in both official languages given the Quebec location.
- Valid driver’s licence is required to drive member vehicles into service bays and park them in the lot
- Must pass the Costco Tire certification test — candidates with existing tire installation or tire sales experience will be given preference
- Bilingual communication (French and English) — oral and written — is required for this Quebec location
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred for this position
- For propane-service locations: must obtain provincial PP0-3 certification and TDG Certification from PTI 100-11 program
