About the Role: Senior Operations Manager – Service Centre

As the Senior Operations Manager, you’ll be at the helm of the Brampton service centre, responsible for delivering on-time performance, managing facility costs, and ensuring every aspect of the operation runs smoothly. From route service standards and driver cost management to profit plan preparation and branch reporting, you’ll have a wide mandate and the authority to match.

You’ll also manage labour relations under the Collective Agreement and work closely with the Human Resources team on all local HR matters. Ensuring staff compliance with Occupational Health & Safety, Transport of Dangerous Goods, and other company policies will be part of your ongoing leadership responsibilities. Where applicable, you may also be required to travel to and manage outlying depots.

Responsibilities

The Senior Operations Manager plays a critical role in shaping the performance, culture, and profitability of the Brampton service centre. From monitoring financial targets to coaching team members, the scope of this role spans both strategic planning and hands-on operational management.

  • Establish and maintain superior customer service performance indicators, including on-time delivery, tracing, dispatch, claims, and missed pick-up resolution
  • Optimize facility costs and monitor EBIT improvement through profitable revenue growth and management of P.U.D. and handling costs
  • Manage labour relations through the appropriate application of the Collective Agreement and coordinate local HR issues with the HR team
  • Oversee Track and Trace technology implementation and compliance, including scanning compliance for P&D, on-hand, linking multi-piece shipments, and transfer to agents
  • Identify and adjust route service standards including driver cost per shipment, stops per hour, and driver load and departure times
  • Prepare and submit the service centre profit plan and assist in developing short- and long-range operational objectives
  • Lead, develop, and coach branch staff through training and counselling, creating opportunities for growth and advancement
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and policies including Occupational Health & Safety, Transport of Dangerous Goods, and WCB regulations
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives and track branch Track & Trace targets
  • Process branch paperwork and prepare required reports and statistics; travel to and manage outlying depots as required

Requirements / Skills

This role is best suited to a seasoned leader with a strong foundation in transportation or logistics management, hands-on experience in a unionized environment, and the ability to balance financial accountability with people development. DHL values candidates who are both analytically sharp and interpersonally effective.

  • 3–5 years of management experience in a medium to large service company, preferably in transportation
  • University degree in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent professional experience
  • Proven leadership with demonstrated success managing teams and driving performance outcomes
  • Experience in a unionized environment and strong negotiation skills
  • General accounting, finance, and administration background to support P&L oversight and profit planning
  • Strong communication skills — both written and verbal — with excellent interpersonal abilities
  • Demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities under time constraints
  • Experience implementing quality and process improvement initiatives and tracking performance metrics
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications
