About the Role: Research Assistant

As a Research Assistant at DHL Supply Chain, your primary focus will be on conducting complex data analysis and translating business needs into mathematical frameworks. You’ll be responsible for developing algorithms, coding analytical tools, and creating prototypes that help management make informed decisions. Benefits and Salary

• Convert business needs into mathematical equations and expressions that accurately reflect real-world constraints
• Develop mathematical and/or heuristic algorithms with all practical assumptions clearly defined
• Code analytical tools in assigned programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java
• Conduct tool design reviews to validate approach and ensure quality
• Create functional prototypes with basic interfaces for management use and evaluation
• Document the tool design process thoroughly for future reference and team continuity

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in programming and mathematical modelling, with an eye for practical application in a logistics or operations environment. DHL values curiosity, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

• Programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java — required for building and maintaining analytical tools
• Working knowledge of MS Office — required for documentation and reporting
• Good communication skills — essential for collaborating with teams and presenting results clearly
• SQL knowledge — preferred, for working with structured data sources
• Understanding of optimization and simulation concepts — preferred, to guide algorithm development
• Familiarity with heuristics and meta-heuristics used in industry and academia — preferred, to tackle complex analytical problems
