About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for sorting and delivering mail safely and on time across assigned rural and suburban routes. You’ll build familiarity with local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles, ensuring each item reaches its destination securely. You’ll also process Canada Post products and services such as Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).

While on delivery, you’ll be required to wear Canada Post identification and keep it visible at all times. The role involves physical activity, including lifting and carrying items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg), and operating your personal vehicle in all types of weather and traffic conditions. Responsibilities

As a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier on on-call relief, your work is essential to keeping communities connected. You’ll handle the full delivery cycle — from sorting at the depot to safely placing items with customers — while upholding Canada Post’s standards for safety, accuracy, and professionalism.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner to rural and suburban addresses
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles on your assigned route
• Secure all mail in your possession throughout the entire delivery process
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of daily delivery duties
• Operate a personal motor vehicle safely across all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate is someone with a clean driving record, a reliable vehicle, and the discipline to work independently on a route. Attention to detail, physical fitness, and a commitment to safe driving are key attributes Canada Post looks for in this role. Applicants residing within 75 km of the Tillsonburg Post Office are preferred.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Personal vehicle meeting mandatory requirements: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 L) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof with accessory power outlet, passenger window sill height between 38″ and 45″, and ideally a fifth door or hatchback
• Automobile liability insurance for use of personal vehicle, with your insurer notified of its use during Canada Post employment
