About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an on-call relief mail carrier, you’ll be called upon to cover delivery routes as needed, making flexibility and dependability key assets. You’ll be responsible for the full delivery cycle — from sorting mail at the start of your shift to ensuring every item reaches its destination safely and on time. You’ll also be expected to learn local roads, delivery receptacles, and customer locations to carry out your routes efficiently.

Beyond delivery, you’ll handle various Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills. You’ll wear your Canada Post identification at all times while on delivery, and you’ll be responsible for keeping mail secure throughout your route. Physical demands include lifting and carrying items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg), so physical fitness is part of the job.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned rural and suburban routes
• Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure mail safely throughout the duration of your shift to protect customer correspondence
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail
• Lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of regular delivery duties
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions throughout your route

Requirements / Skills

Canada Post is looking for candidates who are organized, reliable, and comfortable working independently in variable conditions. A clean driving record and a valid licence are non-negotiable, and experience behind the wheel in a delivery context is a strong asset.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Experience operating a motor vehicle for deliveries in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions
• Physical capability to lift and carry items up to 50 lb (22.7 kg)
• Access to a qualifying vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft, metal rooftop, accessory power outlet, and appropriate automobile liability insurance
• Ability to notify your insurer of vehicle use for Canada Post employment purposes
