This position centres on the safe and timely delivery of mail and parcels across rural and suburban routes. Day-to-day, you’ll be sorting items at the post office, loading your vehicle, and navigating local roads to ensure every piece of mail reaches the right destination. You’ll also be responsible for processing various Canada Post products and services along your route, including Change of Address notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB).

Responsibilities

As a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, your daily tasks will keep you active and on the move. From sorting mail at the start of your shift to ensuring every delivery is completed safely and on time, attention to detail and local knowledge are key to doing this job well.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner along assigned rural and suburban routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles in your area
• Secure all mail items properly while in your possession throughout the delivery process
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear and display Canada Post identification visibly while delivering and collecting mail from customers
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions throughout your route

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate for this role is a reliable, safety-minded individual who is comfortable working independently. Canada Post values dependability and professionalism, and is particularly looking for applicants residing within 75 km of the Port Hood Post Office. You’ll also need to provide your own qualifying vehicle for this position.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required if selected
• Qualifying vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and a fifth door/hatchback (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance — must be maintained and your insurer notified of vehicle use for Canada Post
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in various weather and traffic conditions
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lb / 22.7 kg
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
