About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

Each shift starts with sorting and organizing mail before heading out on your route. You’ll be responsible for safe and timely delivery to a variety of customers, which means knowing your territory — local roads, delivery receptacles, and customer locations — is key. You’ll also process a range of Canada Post products and services while out in the field.

This role carries real responsibility. You’ll be expected to wear your Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery, keep mail secure while in your possession, and handle items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg). Whether it’s rain, snow, or heavy traffic, consistent and professional service is the standard.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day work in this role centres on efficient, safe mail delivery across rural and suburban routes in the Hampton area. You’ll need to stay organized, manage your route independently, and represent Canada Post professionally at every stop.

• Sort and organize mail items prior to departure to ensure efficient route completion
• Collect and deliver mail safely and on time to customers across assigned routes
• Maintain working knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles
• Secure all mail in your possession throughout the delivery process
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail handling, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times during delivery and collection
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of routine duties
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The right candidate for this role is reliable, safety-conscious, and experienced behind the wheel. Canada Post places a high priority on road safety and professional conduct, so your driving record and vehicle suitability are central to the application process.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a driver’s abstract will be required
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in varied weather and traffic conditions
• Vehicle meeting mandatory cargo requirements: minimum 50 cu ft (1,415 L) cargo capacity, automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, and appropriate window sill height (38″–45″ from ground)
• Automobile liability insurance covering business use of your personal vehicle, with your insurance company notified accordingly
• Language requirement: English or French essential (either/or)
• Preferred: Applicants residing within 75 km of the Hampton Post Office
