About the Role: Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier, On-call Relief

As an on-call relief mail carrier, your primary responsibility is the safe, timely sorting and delivery of mail and parcels throughout assigned rural and suburban routes. You’ll build a working knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery points — becoming a trusted presence in the communities you cover.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day, a Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of mail and parcels along designated routes. These responsibilities require strong organizational skills, physical capability, and a reliable approach to both driving and customer service.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner along rural and suburban routes
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles within the service area
• Ensure mail is securely in your possession at all times during delivery
• Process Canada Post products and services including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification visibly at all times while delivering and collecting mail from customers
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as required
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate for this on-call relief carrier position is someone who is organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently. Canada Post values candidates who take safety seriously and can represent the organization professionally in the communities they serve.

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence — Class 5 or G required
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required upon selection
• Vehicle meeting mandatory requirements: minimum cargo capacity of 50 cu ft (1,415 litres), automatic transmission, power windows, metal roof-top with accessory power outlet, passenger window sill height between 38″–45″ from ground, and maximum interior width of 56″ (fifth door/hatchback preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance for vehicle use at Canada Post — your insurance provider must be notified of vehicle use for employment
• Experience making deliveries and operating a motor vehicle in all weather and traffic conditions
• Residing within 75 km of the Lunenburg Post Office is preferred
• Ability to pass a formal interview as part of the selection process
