As an on-call relief carrier, you’ll step in to cover various routes and ensure that mail and parcels are delivered safely and on time. You’ll need to quickly familiarise yourself with local roads, customers, and delivery points, while also processing Canada Post products and services such as Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB). Every day looks a little different, which keeps the work engaging.

This role also requires adherence to Canada Post’s safety and security standards, including wearing proper identification while on delivery and ensuring mail is secured at all times. You’ll be working with your own vehicle, so meeting the mandatory vehicle requirements is essential. Responsibilities

As an on-call relief carrier, your daily work centres on keeping mail moving safely and efficiently through rural and suburban communities around Whitecourt. These responsibilities require a mix of physical capability, local knowledge, and attention to detail to ensure every delivery is handled professionally.

• Sort, collect, and deliver mail items in a safe and timely manner across assigned routes
• Learn and maintain knowledge of local roads, customers, and delivery receptacles within your route
• Secure all mail in your possession at all times to protect the privacy and integrity of deliveries
• Process Canada Post products and services, including Change of Address Notifications, Damaged Mail, and Items Delivered Bills (IDB)
• Wear Canada Post identification and ensure its visibility during deliveries and collections
• Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lb (22.7 kg) as part of regular duties
• Operate a motor vehicle safely in all weather and traffic conditions throughout your shift

Requirements / Skills

• Valid permanent provincial driver’s licence (Class 5 or G) is mandatory
• Satisfactory safe driving record — a current driver’s abstract dated within the last 30 days will be required
• Eligible vehicle with a minimum cargo capacity of 100 cu ft (2,832 litres), metal roof-top, accessory power outlet, and a fifth door or hatchback (preferred)
• Automobile liability insurance for the use of your personal vehicle while employed at Canada Post, and notification of your insurer regarding vehicle use
• Experience making deliveries and operating a vehicle in all types of weather and traffic conditions
• Residence within 75 km of the Whitecourt Post Office is preferred
• English language proficiency is required for this position
