Responsibilities

This position sits at the intersection of labour relations strategy and day-to-day operations, requiring you to balance policy interpretation with practical problem-solving. You’ll act as a resource for management while also maintaining productive relationships with union representatives — a role that demands both diplomacy and a solid grounding in labour law and procedure.

  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to business partners on the interpretation, application, and administration of Collective Agreement(s), including changes to agreements and national policies
  • Handle grievance procedures beyond the first level in a timely and effective manner, ensuring speedy resolution of employee problems and concerns
  • Administer the Grievance Management System (GMS), ensuring proper documentation is collected, recorded, and maintained
  • Present or assist in arbitration cases, advising on the handling of conciliation and arbitration matters
  • Consult with regional union and management representatives on working conditions, disciplinary issues, and problem resolution
  • Integrate and monitor business processes for regional consultations, grievance management, arbitration, and WCB appeals within the operating area
  • Maintain a network of internal and external contacts to benchmark and stay current on future trends, developments, and best practices in labour relations
  • Advise management of potential disruptive issues or activities in the labour force and make recommendations to avoid or resolve them

Requirements / Skills

The ideal candidate brings a solid academic foundation in industrial or labour relations combined with hands-on experience in a unionized environment.   • University degree in Industrial Relations, or a university degree with commensurate experience in Labour/Industrial Relations; alternatively, a completed post-secondary program with related Labour Relations coursework and equivalent experience
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant functional experience in labour relations or a closely related field
  • Experience in a unionized environment is considered a strong asset
  • Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, the Canada Labour Relations Board process, and Canada Post collective agreements
  • Familiarity with provincial labour regulations, various labour organizations, and Canada Post’s Health and Safety programs
  • Knowledge across multiple operational areas including Human Resources, Mail Operations, Collection and Delivery, and Retail Operations
